Pause when shifting from park to drive

Something has been bugging me with my ride, and I'm wondering if others have had a similar experience. Lately, when I'm shifting from park into drive, there's this noticeable pause like the drivetrain takes a beat to decide what to do. It's not grinding or anything dramatic, but it's not the smooth, immediate engagement I was used to either.
I've checked the fluid levels and there's no warning lights or strange noises. Just lag. Could be something minor, could be the start of something more, who can help me out please

The pause when shifting from park to drive sounds like a common early transmission or shift linkage issue. Since your fluids and warning lights are fine, its probably minor but worth getting checked soon, anything about the transmission is pricey

Great point, anything related to transmission can rack up costs pretty quickly. That small hesitation might be an early warning of a linkage adjustment problem or a delay in the internal valve body. It could be a good idea to get the shop to check for any hidden codes, even if there aren't any warning lights showing. Has this issue been worsening over time, or has it just recently started?

I've noticed that too on some automatics and sometimes it's just the torque converter taking a moment to engage, especially if the fluid is a bit old or if it's been sitting in cold weather
